San Antonio Symphony Art Contest

Let’s show the San Antonio Symphony how wonderfully talented our children are! We will help encourage them along with other artists and a member of the San Antonio Symphony Youth Orchesta who will drop in for some sessions.

Grades: PK-6th

Location: We Heart Art Collective Studio (Upstairs at Sanctuary for the Vintage Soul, enter 615 S. Main, #100)

Cost: $20 per 2 hour session (supplies and entries covered)

December 18th, 10am-12 pm
December 18th, 1pm-3pm
December 22nd, 11am-1pm
December 22nd, 1:30pm-3:30pm

Please note that masks are required for this class. To help protect our students and staff, we have a maximum of 4 students per session.

What does the contest entail?

MEDIA:
 Paint, crayon, pencil, marker, collage, assemblage, chalk or pastels (sprayed with fixative) may be used.
 Art on the unprinted backside of recycled paper is acceptable.
 Artwork on translucent paper will NOT be accepted.
 IMPORTANT: Artwork with very light coloring and/or uncolored “blank” areas does not show up well when
photographed and converted into an electronic image. Because winning artwork may be photographed in
order to be showcased as part of the culminating concert, please encourage your students to fill the whole
page or canvas (without leaving “blank” areas) and “color in” completely as faint colors tend to wash out
when projected.
6. SIZE:
 Submitted artwork must be no smaller than 8.5” x 11” and no larger than 12” X 18” for judging purposes
and in order to be considered for inclusion in the concert video.

Grades: PK-6th

  • Students will  have a combination of an art and music lesson to to create an individual interpretation of one of the following music selections from Symphony No.
    6 in F Major, Op. 68, “Pastorale” by Ludwig van Beethoven:
    Option One: II. Scene by the brook (Szene am Bach)
    Option Two: IV. Thunderstorm (Gewitter, Sturm)
    Option Three: V. Shepherd’s Song, glad and grateful feelings after the storm
    (Hirtengesang. Frohe und dankbare Gefühle nach dem Sturm)
  • Students will get to use their choice of media and the size based on contest rules:
